        C.E.C INTERNATIONAL BIENNALE ENGRAVED  CARDBOARD

“PLURAL CARDBOARDS OR ABOUT THE USE OF POLYPTYCH

Many artists in France and abroad make prints using cardboard matrix.

In order to bring them together and in an effort to make this print approach as widely known as possible, C.E.C, a group of artists, organizes its 3rd Biennale of engraved cardboard in parternership with the municipality of Ville d’Avray.

Conditions of participation

° Open to everyone regardless of age or nationality

Warning : the engraved cardboard can’t be assimilated to collagraphy. Even if you will be able to associate other techniques of engraving (a part of which may be collagraphy) or the printing of digital images, the “cardboard” part will have to take precedence.

Similarly, TetraPak, a material of wich cardboard is only on of the constitutive elements, may only be used in a restricted way in the presented works which, as should be reminded, are dedicated to engraved cardboard.

° The selection board reserves the right to refuse works that do not meet these criteria. The jury’s decisions are final.

° The list of selected artists will be published on the site of the biennale https://biennaleinternationaleducartongrave.com and they will receive by email the notification of their selection and the elements necessary for their communication.

Theme

“PLURAL CARDBOARDS OR ABOUT THE USE OF POLYPTYCH”

The theme will be treated in the form of set of 2,3,4,or 6 engravings arranges in accordance with the proposals presented at the end of this document.

Each engraving constituting the polyptych will have a size of H30xL20 cm or H20xL30.

When you send the whole work, please do not forget to include an installation notice to enable us to properly hang the different pieces of the final work.

Prize

Two prizes will be awarded by an independent jury with a value of:

Ville d’Avray prize 500€

Engraved cardboard prize 500€

CEC will award two “Blow of heart” prizes : a “Blow of heart” awarded to a French artist and another one to one of the foreign artists. They will receive all the revues of CEC.

Participation fee :

° 40€, payment by Paypal or bank transfer, including the return of works by normal mail ( CEC will not be responsible for loss by mail) or 55 € should be added for the return of works by mail  tracking or registered mail (Paypal, cheque or bank transfer).

The payment by Paypal will be made directly via the website.

° In the event that the work is not selected, the participation fee will not be refunded.

°Participation in the selection and the event will only be possible after payment of fees.

Registration and sending of works

°By mail, the registration form and the payment must be returned completed before February 27th , 2024 accompanied by a photo of the cardboard matrix and a photo of the whole artwork composed of 2, 3, 4 or 6 modules) at the following email address bicgcec@gmail.com

Photo format: 150dpi

Photo format of the artwork : 10x15cm and 300dpi (will be used for the catalogue)

° The work must be sent by post by February 27th, 2024 to the following address:

Pascale Simonet/CEC-  3 allée des Sycomores -92410 –Ville d’Avray- France.

°The selected artists will be notified by mail at the end of March 2024 and the complete list will be published on the site of the biennale.

° Any works received, which do not comply with  the regulations (size, technique…) will not be selected and will be returned at the end of the exhibition.

Insurance of works

The works will be insured by CEC from their reception until their return, including throughout the exhibition.

Catalogue

An online catalogue will present the works of selected artists, it will be relaid on the FB page of the group, on several other Facebook pages and on Instagram.

A paper catalogue will be edited and put on sale during the exhibition. Each exhibitor will receive a free copy; however the conditions of sending will be communicated later.

Exhibition of works

° The works will be presented from May 15th to June 02nd 2024 at the Entr@cte 3-5 rue de Versailles,  92410 Ville d’Avray.

  • The artists agree that the hanging will be done without frame but with magnets.

° Artists will be asked, to have to all the extent possible, to be on duty during the exhibition.

Sales of the works

In case of sale, the transaction will be made in the name of the artist, CEC does not collect any commission.

The payments will be made made on place by cheque or bank card.

For payments by bank card, CEC uses the SUM UP system. In that case, the amont paid to the artist will be reduced by the amont of the commission collected by SUM UP. The artist who do not accept this deduction should let us know.

For works sold during the exhibition :

  • For France, the cheque to the order of the artiste will be sent after the exhibition. Cash payment will be sent in the form of a cheque issued by Carton Extrême Carton or a paypal payment whenever possible.
  • For foreign countries, the amont of the sale will be paid by Paypal.

Return of works

°The works will be sent back at the latest by the month following the end of the exhibition according to the return method chosen by the artist.

The sold works payment will be made through Paypal within the same deadline.

° In the event where the works shipped were not delivered to the addressee (address error…) and would be returned to C.E.C, they would be reshipped after rectification of the address and payment of new postal costs.

 Summary

° Registration by mail  (see the bulletin to be download) before February 27th 2024 with a photo of the matrix (definition 150dpi) and the works (definition 300dpi)

° The rules must be signed and sent by email or by postal mail before February 27th 2024 confirmed by the postmark.

°Payment of participation fees before February 27th 2024

°When sending engravings by February 27th 2024 to 43, rue de la Ronce, 92410 Ville d’Avray, France, do not forget to mention “no commercial value” on the package. CEC does not assume any customs charges.

°Selection by jury and notification to selected artists at the end of March 2022

° Exhibition at the Entr@cte from May 22nd  to June 14th 2024

°Opening and award ceremony: the date will be communicated later

°Return of works and payment of works sold by the end of July 2024.

Participation to the event implies acceptance of the rules.

The organizers may not be held liable for events which oblige them to postpone the exhibition.
